Pokémon Ranch

With the new Wii Ware system coming onto the Wii in the Spring of next year, Nintendo has announced one of their own Wii Ware games; Pokémon Ranch. This game has you transferring your Pokémon from Diamond & Pearl to Pokémon Ranch. However, it does not seem to be just a Storage Program. According to the Press Conference, you are able of raising the Pokémon in the Ranch. To what end? We do not know. It could be levelling them up, or it could just be a faux leveling up specific to this game. When we have more details we will let you know, as well as screenshots when they are released.We have obtained the first screenshots of this game, which shows the game in its entirety. In this game, you seem to use your Miis to move around the farm. Once transferred, all your Pokémon shall be there in a cute, low polygonal glory. Just remember, this is a small Wii Ware game that obviously has to be less than around 100MB for publishing due to the Wii's memory limits. With this, you interact with all the Pokémon. Some are flying, most on ground and you interact with them in this manner. We hope to get more details soon, but click to view the screenshots. We should have our own soon:

11th Pokemon Movie Teaser

The official Pokemon movie website has revamped itself for the 11th Pokemon movie, featuring Regigigas (and possibly Shaymin, since flower fields are shown, and it is the next "hidden" legendary). There is a teaser trailer to the right of the website (click the play button), and it shows a COLOSSAL Regigigas emerging from the ground (it is basically the same scene that was shown in July's CoroCoro). The location scouting for this movie took place in Northern Europe (Scandinavia), so we can expect beautiful nature scenery for this movie.

Dialga and Palkia also appear at the end of the trailer (Palkia has the same voice as that animal Obi-Wan rides in Revenge of the Sith - the one the clones shoot down), but they won't have any major part in the movie, especially since the footage of them is just re-used from last year's movie trailer. Teaser trailers for Pokemon movies often convey situations that do not happen when the actual movies come out, so expect this to be true with Dialga and Palkia (possibly with the fact that Regigigas is huge, too).

If Shaymin is in this movie, what roll will it have? Maybe it sealed away Regigigas a long time ago, it has become weak [insert nature theme somewhere, like human-induced global warming has hurt it or something, and Regigigas is going to kill them for it], Regigigas has escaped, and now Ash and crew must save the day? Maybe Regigigas is destroying all of the pretty flower fields and they hire their local gardener, Shaymin, to regrow them all, while we all learn about photosynthesis in the process? Maybe Shaymin is evil and it plugs into Regigigas to create Regishaymin to terrorize everyone? Who knows... We'll find out more about this movie in December, when a longer trailer is released.

The special is almost 30 minutes long, and to watch it, scroll down on the page linked to above and select "1Mbps" if you have a high-speed internet connection, or "500kbps" if you have a slower connection.

GTS Website Up!

The official Diamond and Pearl GTS website is now online and running! The website shows details of trades going on around the world (although they are probably not in real time), including which Pokemon are traded the most, what their individual attacks are, and all sorts of statistics concerning different countries and the most popular Pokemon traded in those countries. You can also bookmark your favorite Pokemon and countries for easier access to statistics on them.

The website, however, only seems useful for satisfying curiosity about trades going on around the world, since no actual interaction can take place between your DS and the website (it is only for viewing statistics on trades, and nothing else). Since you can see the attacks of Pokemon being traded, I guess the website could be used to extrapolate what types of strategies people are using for certain Pokemon, but other than that, it is just for fun it seems. Still quite an interesting website, though!

For many Pokemon fans this article will seem a bit out of touch with the Pokemon community and Pokemon fans in general but it does have some information about Pokemon USA's marketing strategy and goals for the Pokemon franchise.

Remember Squirtle and Jigglypuff? They’re Back

Playground fads come and go, as those who have found themselves with neglected collections of Beanie Babies can attest.

Pokemon video game characters on display at a shop in Tokyo. The company says that it has learned to be more selective about licensing its name.

But the Pokemon franchise, which enjoyed a long run of popularity in the late 1990s, is a rare example of a craze that has come back, for reasons that have as much to do with corporate maneuvers as they do with the tastes of the average 7-year-old.

Pokemon, which stands for “pocket monsters,” consists of a set of whimsical characters with supernatural powers who appear on trading cards, in video games and in television cartoons. And while most parents thought they had seen the last of Pikachu, Squirtle and Jigglypuff years ago, these days children are trading the cards on the playground again, playing Pokemon on their Game Boys and tuning in to a new animated series.

“We’re on fire,” said Holly Rawlinson, vice president of licensing and entertainment for Pokemon USA, a subsidiary of the Pokemon Company joint venture created by Nintendo and two other companies. Pokemon USA is responsible for managing the Pokemon name everywhere but in Asia.

Pokemon began in Japan in 1996 and reached the United States two years later. By 1999, it had become such a cornerstone of pop culture that the characters were featured on the covers of Time, The New Yorker and TV Guide; in 2001 the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade added a Pikachu balloon.

But the attention led to overexposure. “One of the things about brands that enjoy enormous popularity is that they tend to also crash,” Ms. Rawlinson said.

Although the games and cards have always sold consistently to their core audience of boys, starting in about 2003 sales of licensed merchandise came to a standstill. “There was very little, if any, product on the shelves,” Ms. Rawlinson said. “It was a very tired time for us.”

So at the beginning of 2006, Pokemon USA set out to revive the brand. The coordinated effort was timed to culminate with big product introductions that began this spring.

First, Pokemon USA took control over important components of the franchise that had been managed elsewhere, including the trading cards that had been distributed by a division of Nintendo, and the cartoons, which had been handled by 4Kids Entertainment.

In April, Nintendo of America released two games for the hand-held Nintendo DS game system, Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. In June, the Cartoon Network began the 10th season of the franchise’s cartoon series, this one called “Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.”

Also in June, Pokemon USA’s trading card unit began shipping a new series of cards featuring the 104 characters created for the Diamond and Pearl introduction (like Piplup, Chimchar and Turtwig) as well as many of the old characters.

It was the first time that new games, a new television season, and a fresh batch of cards were introduced in this country at roughly the same time, Ms. Rawlinson said. “All the elements support each other,” she said. “The kids play the Diamond and Pearl games and watch the new shows, and they immediately want to get the new cards.”

Another element of the revival has been a change in toy vendors, from Hasbro to Jakks Pacific, which introduced a new product line. Jeremy Padawer, Jakks’s vice president for brand marketing, said Hasbro had focused on a few main Pokemon characters, but his company is shipping toys that use more than 100 of the 500 characters.

The new merchandise was showcased this summer at the Toys “R” Us store in Times Square, which opened a temporary Pokemon boutique. Next month, Toys “R” Us plans to open Pokemon boutiques in its 585 other domestic stores, said Ronald D. Boire, the president of Toys “R” Us.

Sales of the trading cards this year have already exceeded sales for all of 2006, and by the end of the year are expected to triple last year’s total, according to Pokemon USA. The June 4 debut episode of “Pokemon Diamond and Pearl” on the Cartoon Network was the top-rated show that day for boys ages 6 to 11.

Total merchandise sales this year are expected to exceed $50 million, compared with less than $4 million last year, Ms. Rawlinson said.

After the overexposure issues of recent years, the company has learned to be more selective about licensing its name. “We get requests for all kinds of products, but now we turn a lot down,” Ms. Rawlinson said. Would-be Pokemon products that ended up on the reject list include diapers and gerbil cages.

In some ways, Nintendo’s success with Pokemon games is similar to that of its Wii gaming console. Breaking with the traditional strategy of aiming a console at gamers, Wii has become a best seller by aiming at people who did not play games, thus serving to expand the overall market.

The Diamond and Pearl games on Nintendo’s DS system, which let players compete against one another over the Internet, have done the same, according to Wilbert Rivera, a sales associate at a Manhattan GameStop store. Being able to battle against people all over the world “adds more challenge to the games, more depth,” he said.

The games are selling both to young fans and older, more experienced gamers. “Who’s buying it? Everybody,” Mr. Rivera said.

Answering High Demand from Pokémon Fans, Company Releases First Set of Trading Figures in U.S.

Pokémon USA, Inc., a worldwide leader in trading card games, today announced the U.S. release of the Pokémon Trading Figure Game (TFG), slated to hit stores on September 19. The Pokemon Summer Day Camp event in the UK was held this month. The event was held throughout the month of August at 20 different Toys "R" Us stores. At the event fans coud play Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii, play Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, learn to trade and battle with trainers around the world, a free Mew download, a free Pokemon goodie bag, and face painting. Fans that dress up as a Pokemon character will also have a chance to win prizes. One first place winner is awarded per event and will get a Nintendo DS, a Cartoon Network Goodie Bag, and Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, and two runners up get a Cartoon Network Racing game for the DS.

When you go to Toys R Us on September 29th to receive Manaphy, it will be available via wireless download (Mystery Gift).

Unlike the Mew giveaway last year, which had HUGE lines at some Toys R Us stores due to the manual trading people had to do with employees, obtaining Manaphy should not be too time-consuming or difficult, since everyone can download Manaphy at the same time (there may not even be any lines!).

Although I am not completely sure, downloading Manaphy from a wireless signal at Toys R Us could either allow you to only download one Manaphy or download a few. When downloading surfing Pikachu from Pokemon Battle Revolution, you can only download it once per Diamond and Pearl cartridge per the account you are using in Pokemon Battle Revolution. However, if you try Mystery Gift on another account in PBR to get Pikachu, it will allow you to receive the Mystery Gift again, but only a few times more (through the method of using different accounts). Thus, if the Toys R Us wireless signal is the same throughout the event, you will most likely only be allowed to download one Manaphy per cartridge, but if it alternates, you may be able to download more than one Manaphy. Guess we will have to wait and find out what their plan is!

Pokémon USA will launch a back-to-school promotion with Armour-Eckrich's LunchMakers that will put characters from the latest Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games on 30 million packages of the portable, refrigerated meals. The 13 varieties (six fun kits and seven "smalls") hit store shelves later this month and run through November.

Packages will tout 10,000 Pokémon prizes in the instant-win sweeps, including 10 trips to New York's Nintendo World to visit the Pokémon Center, Nintendo DS units, Diamond and Pearl videogames, DVDs from licensee Viz and character figures from Jakks-Pacific. And it wouldn't be Pokémon if there wasn't a card to collect: Each product package contains a bookmark featuring a different Pokémon character.

There will be no direct media support, but the brands will market online and at 950 stores via ShelfVision video ads triggered by a motion sensor.

While Pokémon skews about 2-1 boys-to-girls, the sweepstakes is aimed equally at boys and girls ages 5-11. "We made sure to focus on elements that are just as important to the girls as the boys," said Bruce Loeb, vp-marketing at Pokémon USA, New York. "We included tough and cute characters."

Pizza, nachos, chicken nuggets and Cracker Crunchers are some of the varieties that will carry new Pokémon characters Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup along with classics Pikachu, Dialga and Palkia. Armour-Eckrich, Lisle, Ill., is a $1 billion a year company, and its LunchMakers is a leading brand in the portable, refrigerated lunch category.

There will be both an in-package instant win and an online, 2nd chance contest that will run from 7/23/2007 through 2/28/2008.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games were introduced this past spring and the Diamond and Pearl toon debuted in June on Cartoon Network.

New Super Smash Bros. BRAWL Character

If Super Smash Brothers Brawl wasn't awesome before, this has to take the cake - could this game honestly be anymore detailed or jam-packed? Masahiro Sakurai just updated the Super Smash Brothers Brawl website with two Pokemon updates, highlighting the new "Pokemon Trainer" character, who is an actual playable character in the game. However, since we all know Pokemon players do not actually participate in Pokemon battles in the games (as in, physically fighting alongside their Pokemon), the same will apply for this character in SSBB - he will use either Squirtle, Ivysaur, or Charizard to battle in the rounds against other Nintendo characters, as he sits in the background (lazy human). The trainer can change between the three Pokemon by using the Down + B Special, causing the Pokemon to rotate in this order: Squirtle, Ivysaur, and then Charizard, which all have their own movesets that can be used against other characters. The three Pokemon share the same damage meter as well, so switching out does not remove damage when playing during a round. The Pokemon also have a special stat called "stamina," which has negative effects (currently unknown) if the trainer keeps them in battle too long or they are switched out too frequently (a Pokemon trainer needs to know when to switch our their Pokemon, so this stat will keep the Pokemon trainer experience in-check). The sequels to the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, Time Expedition and Darkness Expedition, now have a commercial running in Japan to advertise their September 13th launch. In case you do not know about the two games, allow me to quote our May 13th news story: "The two games will be different from the previous Mystery Dungeon series in that the player must join a guild to train and become more powerful, with the guild leader being Wigglytuff, and its right-hand Pokemon being Chatot. This time around, however, the purpose of the games will be to explore and find treasure, rather than to rescue, as with the previous Mystery Dungeon games. The player will also be able to choose their character from either Munchlax, Pikachu, Piplup, Chimchar, Turtwig, as well as 11 other Pokemon not yet known."

Unlike the previous Mystery Dungeon special, which aired in America before Japan, this one will air in Japan first and will feature both Chimchar and Piplup as the main characters. I mean, really, talk about slow news! In the summer there is no Pokémon News at all as compared to the winter. Although, it could be because new games were coming out, nut new Pokémon games come out every fall and holiday season, you just don't hear about them in the summer. Pokémon should release their games in May too, like Pokémon Emerald, so you have something to do in the summer, instead of trying to get a black trainer card. Anyways, if JRB is still kicking next summer, I might close it from July 5 to September 5, the slow news season. Also, if I do that you'll have more times to do other things on the computer instead of checking here for rare updates.

Pokemon USA, Inc., a worldwide leader in trading card games, today announced the U.S. release of the Pokemon Trading Figure Game (TFG), slated to hit stores on September 19, 2007. This marks the latest milestone in the Pokemon collectible gaming evolution since the release of the phenomenally successful Pokemon Trading Card Game in Japan in 1996.

Nintendo has just announced that over ten million copies of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have been sold since the titles were release in September 2006. Last week the games were released in Europe which should drive sales even higher. Nintendo also announced that more than 1 million games were sold within the first five days in Europe.

Here are some facts from the First half of this year:
-In June alone, Nintendo DS was the top-selling video game system overall with nearly 608,000 units sold in the United States and Canada combined (562,000 United States, 46,000 Canada).
- The three best-selling games in the United States for all of 2007 are for Nintendo systems: Pokemon Diamond, Wii Play and Pokemon Pearl.

Top Selling Games in June:
1. Mario Party 8 (Wii) - 426,000
2. Wii Play (Wii) - 291,200
3. Pokemon Diamond (DS) - 288,400

Tenth Pokémon movie tops Japanese box office in first three days

The 10th Pokémon movie, Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl - Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, ranked first in the Japanese box office for the first three days of its theatrical run.

Released on July 14th nationwide in Japan, it has generated ¥1.13 billion (¥1,133,403,855 - U.S.$9.26 million) with 1,074,000 viewers. Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl - Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai has performed significantly better than last year's Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea: Manaphy. The wireless downloading of the uber Darkrai may have a lot to do with attendance numbers as speculated by movie.goo.ne.jp a Japanese movie ranking page.

Opening weekend revenue is up 71.8 percent from ¥660 million (U.S.$5.39 million) and viewership is up 75.7 percent from 611,272.

While it would have been virtually unthinkable just a few years ago, Nintendo is apparently now contemplating the possibility of a world without Game Boys. That's according to Nintendo marketing exec George Harrison, who recently told GameDaily.biz that we may have seen the last of the name, specifically saying that "it's hard to say in the future if we will ever bring back the Game Boy trademark." In other, less heartbreaking news, Nintendo's homebrew-happy WiiWare service appears to be progressing nicely, with Harrison also letting out word that "it may not take until 2008" for it to make its public debut. A firmer date will apparently depend on how quickly developers can get their act together.

Deoxys in SSB Brawl

The official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website has revealed that Deoxys (Attack) will be a Pokemon that is unleashed from a PokeBall in the game. When it is released, it hovers into the air, turns around, and fires a Hyper Beam down on to the field, causing massive damage to characters in the attack's way. So far, the only Pokemon that we know are available from PokeBalls in the game are Groudon, Chikorita, Goldeen, and, of course, Deoxys (Attack). Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be sold in America on December 3rd (for the Nintendo Wii, obviously). Click the thumbnails of Deoxys below for larger images.

Many of you have probably seen the new Transformers movie this week, and before the movie started there was a trailer for a movie, Cloverfield, by J. J. Abrams, many people are trying to figure out what it is and some people, along with VH1, are saying it might be a Pokémon movie!

Next month's issue of CoroCoro features a screenshot of the first 11th Pokemon movie preview, which will air at the end of the 10th Pokemon movie (a preview of the next film always airs after Pokemon movies in Japan - last year, it showed Dialga and Palkia). In the preview, Regigigas's hand is seen emerging from the ground, apparently destroying the field around it. Around the dirt, there are flowers, which you can see at the bottom of the screenshot. The only unrevealed Pokemon at this point are Shaymin and Arceus, and Shaymin is the next Pokemon after Darkrai (who is the star of the 10th movie). Shaymin, as most of us know, is a flower-chia pet-type thing. Could this movie feature Shaymin as well? That's just my opinion from the limited screenshot we have, but we'll see...

A Japanese magazine scan recently revealed the release date for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 - Time Expedition and Darkness Expedition. The two DS games will be released in Japan on September 13, 2007.

The scan also mentions a feature that will make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It will apparently enable the user to send SOS mails as e-mail over the internet, which then can be read on PCs, Wii Consoles, or mobile phones.

Pokémon Top-Selling Video Game for Second Consecutive Month

After 10 years in the marketplace, Pokémon continues to enjoy the kind of popularity and recognition that have earned it the envious toy industry moniker of "evergreen property" -- no easy feat, given the trend and fad driven world of toys and games. With a decade under its belt, a new generation of kids are playing, watching, collecting and trading their Pokemon, while the brand has surged to the top of the charts in a number of categories.

According to independent sales data released late last week by the NPD Group, Pokémon Diamond(R) is the #1 selling video game across all formats for the second consecutive month, with sales of 331,000 units in May. Year-to- date, in terms of number of units sold (January - May, 2007), Pokémon Diamond is the best-selling title, with Pokémon Pearl(R) ranking at number four over the same time period; even more significant given that the two related titles exclusively for the Nintendo DS(TM) hand-held game system were not released until April 22, 2007. To date, the two games have sold a combined total of 2,330,000 units in the U.S., with over 1 million copies sold within the first five days of release.

Findings from a study conducted for Pokémon USA, Inc. by NPD in March 2007 show that more than nine out of 10 kids, ranging from first graders to high school seniors (ages 6-17), are aware of the Pokémon brand. Interesting to note is that children progress through different product categories and grow with the brand. A new generation of Pokémon fans are engaging with the franchise at a particularly young age. For example, Pokémon toys and the animated TV program are appealing to kids at a low entry age (ages 6.1 and 6.2 respectively), and as they grow older, other aspects of the brand are of interest.

"Research has shown that Pokémon's cross category brand strength is driven heavily by its loyal kid fan base, particularly ages 6-11. In addition, according to the research, it is the likeability of the Pokémon characters -- their cuteness and variety -- that give rise to the appeal of the products and the brand itself," said Anita Frazier, industry analyst, The NPD Group. Pokemon brand categories include video games, a trading card game, an animated TV series on Cartoon Network, DVDs and licensed toys and merchandise.

In addition to stellar sales of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl video games, Pokémon USA, Inc. is announcing other strong results in advance of Licensing International Expo 2007:

* ICv2, a source for information on the business of pop culture products, ranked the Pokemon Trading Card Game as the #1 collectible trading card game as of spring 2007. Starting July 14th in Japan, a small portfolio containing 11 cards of Pokemon featured from the past nine movies will be sold, each for 1,000 yen. The Pokemon that will be available within the portfolio are Mewtwo, Lugia, Entei, Celebi, Latias, Latios, Jirachi, Deoxys, Mew, Lucario and Manaphy, with an empty space for Darkrai, all on Diamond and Pearl card templates. Details of additional gift Pokémon for the Japanese 10th movie have been announced.

According to Pokeani, the July issue of CoroCoro has revealed that the gift Pokémon available for moviegoers seeing Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai this summer are a Mew that knows Teleport, a Lucario that knows Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Dark Pulse and Water Pulse and a Lv.50 Manaphy that knows Heart Swap.

The Pokémon distributed will depend on the time of day, and only one of the three will be downloadable to each copy of the games.

Additionally, a Darkrai knowing Spatial Rend and Roar of Time will be distributed to the first 4.2 million viewers.

Over 10 million Pokémon Diamond and Pearl trades have been made between the US and Japan on the GTS (Global Trade System). That's a lot of Pokémon being traded, how many of those trades were you responsible for?

The July issue of CoroCoro has revealed further details regarding the upcoming Nintendo DS games, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Time and Darkness Expeditions.

As previously reported, a new game mechanism will be guilds, in particular, the Guild of Wigglytuff. The player and the partner form an expedition team, and train at the guild. The guild building consists of an above-ground room and several underground rooms, in which the guild members, including the player and the partner, live and dine. More...

While an exact release date is not known yet, we can expect to see this tile out in Fall of this year.

We all knew this one was just a matter of time, but it sounds like the Japanese faithful will finally have the opportunity to purchase a glaring yellow Pikachu DS Lite system in the not too distant future. Of course, this isn't the first time the infamous Pokemon has taken over a Nintendo handheld, but getting your palms around this machine will be even more difficult than those other hard-to-get hues. The limited edition machine will reportedly sport Pikachu's face on the bottom right corner of the cover, include a matching yellow stylus, and in order to procure one, you'll have to show up in person at the Japanese Pokémon Center and submit your name into a lottery system. Supposedly, the winners will be able to pay their ¥16,800 ($139) and walk out happy starting on July 20th, and afterwards, the rest of you can shell out small fortunes on various auction sites if you just can't do without.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, is quite the busy man nowadays. He was in the UK to promote Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which will be released on July 27th, 2007. Here's an interview with Tsunekazu Ishihara by the Times Online:

“The key to Pokémon’s success is that it is not a solitary experience,” Mr Ishihara, 49, explains. “Since the first title in 1996, we have designed video games for people to play together. New technologies, the internet, will make this stronger.”

The sales figures back him up. When the first Pokémon game (the name is a contraction of “Pocket Monster”, the first that title Mr Ishihara produced) emerged, its meteoric rise, first in Japan and then worldwide, looked to have all the trappings of a fad. Now, having sold more than 165 million units, it looks like an unstoppable juggernaut, albeit one steered by nearly 400 cute, made-up monsters.

GameSpot UK: Pokémon has been an incredibly long-running franchise. Why do you think it has managed that longevity when many other series have been forgotten?

Tsunekazu Ishihara: I think perhaps the continued success is due to the fact that every time we create a new game there's always a new surprise, something new to discover, and a new element of fun. That's something that we always try to have in mind when we evolve the game. For example, every time there is a new iteration of the game, a new region and therefore new Pokémon are discovered.

If you look at what's happening at the moment, there are many intellectual properties that have made these crossovers between TV, movies, and games, and I think have applied similar methods [with the Pokémon brand]. So, we have to continue to look at new ways and ideas so that we don't get left behind or snowed under by these copies. So we have to keep topping ourselves.

GSUK: Any plans for a Pokémon massively multiplayer online game?

TI: At the moment it's not in that exact style, but I already feel that the fact that Pokémon can now be played worldwide, exchanging Pokémon and so on, that it is essentially a massively multiplayer online game already.

An article from newratings.com concerning the good outlook of Pokémon toys from JAKKS Pacific:

Analyst Jeffery Blaeser of Morgan Joseph maintains his "buy" rating on JAKKS Pacific Inc (JAKK.NAS). The target price is set to $29.

In a research note published this morning, the analyst mentions that the company holds exclusive US rights to action figures, play sets, accessories and other products at the Pokémon boutique, which will remain open until July 5. Contribution from JAKKS Pacific’s new Pokémon license is likely to be the highest among the company’s categories, if JAKKS toy sales are as robust as those of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, the analyst says.

The rumor floating around the net is that Nintendo is dropping the ban hammer on Pokémon hackers, particularly those using Action Replay to enable specific cheats on Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games.

"All Shiny"

Using these codes to 'hack' your game and/or Pokémon, has allegedly resulted in players getting banned from online trading, battles. There's a very thin line between modding and cheating and I am glad to see Nintendo and Pokémon USA taking steps against certain exploits that ruin the online gaming experience for others.

I fully support the modding communities out there that are responsible with what they do. However, there definitely is a widespread problem with malicious hacking and modding that simply ruins the online experience of the majority.

At this point, no one is sure how extensive this ban hammer is coming from Nintendo considering there have been no official statements concerning Pokemon from the company. Check back here soon.

I started Jirachi.Rob+bLOG back in June (7,) 2005. It all started from, you guessed it, an idea I had. I was watching a show that I used to like and they mentioned Blogger. The next day I went there and started a little blog called Jirachi.Rob+bLOG.The first couple of days were just me playing around with HTML and the new concept of blogging. I got the hang of it and started posting PokéNews. The blog became a hit. Then it became blogs, then finally JRBnet as we know it today. I hope you have a nice day and a nice Jirachi.Rob+bLOG's 1st Anniversary and a great Pokémon 10. I have a new idea in store for the Anniversary, you'll just have to wait and see!
Durring the celebration I'll post how I grew to love Pokémon and my journey of Pokémon!

Today is Jirachi.Rob+bLOG's second anniversary. The name JRBnet didn't come around until the 22nd, even then it was posted as The JRBtEAM. Today is not celebrating when JRBnet formed, that's later this summer. It is celebrating how Jirachi.Rob+bLOG came along.
In the first cuple of days Jirachi.Rob+bLOG wasn't called the by the name you know it as, ジラーチ！+ロッブ.網のログ, it was once known as Jirachi+Rob.bLOG RSS and Jirachi+Rob.bLOG RSS 2.1, later on, and you can still find some on a Google search. I first discovered Blogger on a TV show I use to watch. They were talking about how it was one of the top ten most used site and how it has been around since 1999. I thought I might give it a try, and I did, creating Jirachi+Rob.bLOG. The first couple of days I was just experimenting with HTML and stuff like that. I was tring to make my site the coolest, with the most to do on it. I later realized that people don't like that kind of things.
The first PokéNews post was on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 and it was about Nintendo revealing next-generation Pokémon games. Jirachi+Rob.bLOG hasn't missed a day. We have posted everyday of the year. We even have a lost post "easter egg" for September 31, 2005. Since Tuesday, June 7, 2005 Jirachi+Rob.bLOG has not missed a single day of content. We're on new realeases of news right when it comes out. You can count on Jirachi+Rob.bLOG and JRBnet to be here for an other year bringing you the latest PokéNews everyday of the year. You'll see changes for the good this summer on Jirachi+Rob.bLOG, and it will be even better by Jirachi+Rob.bLOG's third Anniversary! Once again the lucky folks over here on the east coast of the US, specifically those in the New York area, have yet another cool PokéSurprise.. This time it's a Pokémon sales kiosk inside the Times Square Toys 'R' Us store. Details:

NEW YORK June 5, 2007 With its flagship brand reinvigorated by the success of the latest Pokemon video games and the debut of a new season of its television series, Pokemon USA will open a boutique in Toys R Us Times Square on June 6, 2007 for a one month promotion featuring an extensive collection of licensed merchandise, including several exclusives.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Update

Super Smash Bros. Brawl website updates daily, and today it's detailing our favorite topic, Pokémon, by introducing the PokéBalls and some familiar Pokemon creatures.

The update reveals Groudon, of Pokémon Ruby fame, heating up the stage as the beast burns all those who collide with him, and Chikorita from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal will also appear in Brawl. It's unknown which other Pokemon from Melee, aside from Goldeen, will return for this next Super Smash Bros., but players can expect numerous inclusions if the past games are any indication.

"When you throw a Poké Ball in Smash, a Pokémon of some sort will appear and come to your aid," says game director and website man Masahiro Sakurai. "They're quite reliable. But you never know which Pokémon is inside a Poké Ball."

New screenshots and art have been released, showing off the return of a couple of familiar Pokémon, and the Pokémon Stadium stage from Melee. Click images below to see full size screenshots.

Pokémon Battle Challenge

Are you ready for the new Challenges in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl? Test your skills against other Trainers in our video game challenges! The Pokémon Battle Challenge will see Trainers battle it out 1-on-1 using their own Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl game. Register early on tour days as places are limited.

Pokémon Battle Challenge Rules

In order to qualify for the Pokémon Battle Challenge you must bring your copy of either Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl. Your game must fulfill the following criteria:

- Game must be saved at a PokéCentre of any Town

- Must have at least 3 Pokémon in your team

- Pokémon within saved team cannot be greater than Level 50

- No more than one of the same Pokémon is allowed on a team

- No profanities allowed as names, if any offensive words are found on your game you may be disqualified

The battle will take place in Single Battle, Standard Cup. Standard Cup rules apply. No Special Pokémon allowed. Special Pokémon include: Celebi, Deoxys, Diagla, Groudon, Jirachi, Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Manaphy, Mewtwo, Mew, Palkia and Rayquaza. Each battle will go for a maximum of 10 minutes. If your game does not adhere to the above criteria, you unfortunately may forfeit your place in the Battle.

Each event will become a Pokémon fan's paradise with interactive game play stations showing off the brand new games, as well as other brand new Nintendo DS games. Plus there will be a Pokémon Trading Card Game play area, and a special Touch Generations area - for everyone to enjoy.
