Great Sales!

Nintendo has just announced that over ten million copies of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl have been sold since the titles were release in September 2006. Last week the games were released in Europe which should drive sales even higher. Nintendo also announced that more than 1 million games were sold within the first five days in Europe.

Here are some facts from the First half of this year:
-In June alone, Nintendo DS was the top-selling video game system overall with nearly 608,000 units sold in the United States and Canada combined (562,000 United States, 46,000 Canada).
- The three best-selling games in the United States for all of 2007 are for Nintendo systems: Pokemon Diamond, Wii Play and Pokemon Pearl.

Top Selling Games in June:
1. Mario Party 8 (Wii) - 426,000
2. Wii Play (Wii) - 291,200
3. Pokemon Diamond (DS) - 288,400
4. Pokemon Pearl (DS) - 214,700

These figures show that Pokemon was the best selling game franchise in June 2007. So how long until Pokemon Diamond and Pearl overtakes Mario as the best selling video franchise of all time?

Tenth Pokémon movie tops Japanese box office in first three days

The 10th Pokémon movie, Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl - Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai, ranked first in the Japanese box office for the first three days of its theatrical run.

Released on July 14th nationwide in Japan, it has generated ¥1.13 billion (¥1,133,403,855 - U.S.$9.26 million) with 1,074,000 viewers. Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl - Dialga vs. Palkia vs. Darkrai has performed significantly better than last year's Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea: Manaphy. The wireless downloading of the uber Darkrai may have a lot to do with attendance numbers as speculated by movie.goo.ne.jp a Japanese movie ranking page.

Opening weekend revenue is up 71.8 percent from ¥660 million (U.S.$5.39 million) and viewership is up 75.7 percent from 611,272.

No more handhelds?

While it would have been virtually unthinkable just a few years ago, Nintendo is apparently now contemplating the possibility of a world without Game Boys. That's according to Nintendo marketing exec George Harrison, who recently told GameDaily.biz that we may have seen the last of the name, specifically saying that "it's hard to say in the future if we will ever bring back the Game Boy trademark." In other, less heartbreaking news, Nintendo's homebrew-happy WiiWare service appears to be progressing nicely, with Harrison also letting out word that "it may not take until 2008" for it to make its public debut. A firmer date will apparently depend on how quickly developers can get their act together.

Deoxys in SSB Brawl

The official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website has revealed that Deoxys (Attack) will be a Pokemon that is unleashed from a PokeBall in the game. When it is released, it hovers into the air, turns around, and fires a Hyper Beam down on to the field, causing massive damage to characters in the attack's way. So far, the only Pokemon that we know are available from PokeBalls in the game are Groudon, Chikorita, Goldeen, and, of course, Deoxys (Attack). Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be sold in America on December 3rd (for the Nintendo Wii, obviously). Click the thumbnails of Deoxys below for larger images.

Real life Pokemon

Many of you have probably seen the new Transformers movie this week, and before the movie started there was a trailer for a movie, Cloverfield, by J. J. Abrams, many people are trying to figure out what it is and some people, along with VH1, are saying it might be a Pokémon movie!

Movie 11

Next month's issue of CoroCoro features a screenshot of the first 11th Pokemon movie preview, which will air at the end of the 10th Pokemon movie (a preview of the next film always airs after Pokemon movies in Japan - last year, it showed Dialga and Palkia). In the preview, Regigigas's hand is seen emerging from the ground, apparently destroying the field around it. Around the dirt, there are flowers, which you can see at the bottom of the screenshot. The only unrevealed Pokemon at this point are Shaymin and Arceus, and Shaymin is the next Pokemon after Darkrai (who is the star of the 10th movie). Shaymin, as most of us know, is a flower-chia pet-type thing. Could this movie feature Shaymin as well? That's just my opinion from the limited screenshot we have, but we'll see...

The official Japanese Pokemon movie site has been updated with several new trailers for the 10th Pokemon movie, which features Darkrai. You can view all of the new trailers on this page. The new ones are orange-colored, and the first link in each box is the large version of the trailer, while the second link is the smaller trailer (for people on 56K).

Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon 2

A Japanese magazine scan recently revealed the release date for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 - Time Expedition and Darkness Expedition. The two DS games will be released in Japan on September 13, 2007.

The scan also mentions a feature that will make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It will apparently enable the user to send SOS mails as e-mail over the internet, which then can be read on PCs, Wii Consoles, or mobile phones.

The new Dungeon

The new Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon games comes out September 13 in Japan.
